Vaughan Priorities

Vaughan residents are spending too much of their lives sitting in traffic.

Shelly will make reducing congestion a major priority by pushing for smarter traffic management, better coordination of traffic signals and road improvements, and stronger planning between development and transportation infrastructure. She will also work with York Region and other levels of government to improve transit connections and address the major transportation bottlenecks affecting Vaughan.

The goal is simple: less time stuck in traffic and more time living your life.

Families, seniors and residents across Vaughan are feeling the pressure of rising costs.

Shelly will push for disciplined municipal spending, greater scrutiny of unnecessary costs and better value for every tax dollar City Hall spends. She will also examine practical ways to reduce or offset municipal costs and fees that place additional pressure on households, while ensuring that growth contributes its fair share toward the infrastructure and services it requires.

Residents should be able to see where their money goes — and what they are getting for it.

Vaughan is growing, but growth must improve the city — not overwhelm it.

New development must be supported by the roads, transportation, infrastructure, parks and services needed by the people who will live there and by the communities already surrounding it. Shelly supports responsible development that respects existing neighbourhoods, protects important green spaces and puts infrastructure planning alongside growth rather than years behind it.

Build Vaughan — but build it properly.

Vaughan’s young people should not have to leave their city to find opportunity.

Shelly wants Vaughan to become a city where young people can develop skills, find meaningful employment, explore skilled trades, access mentorship, pursue entrepreneurship and build careers close to home. That means bringing the City, businesses, educational institutions and community organizations together to create stronger pathways to internships, apprenticeships, training, mentorship and employment opportunities.

Our young people aren’t simply Vaughan’s future. They are part of Vaughan right now. Our City. Our Turn.

Small businesses create jobs, strengthen neighbourhoods and help build the economic foundation of our city.

Shelly wants Vaughan to become one of the best places to start, operate and grow a business. That means cutting unnecessary red tape, making it easier to navigate City Hall, improving access to information about available grants, rebates and incentive programs, supporting entrepreneurship, and finding practical ways for the City to help local businesses succeed.

Every Vaughan resident deserves to feel safe in their neighbourhood.

Shelly will support strong community safety initiatives and work collaboratively with York Regional Police, community organizations and residents to address local concerns. Safety also means well-maintained parks and public spaces, appropriate lighting, safe streets and crossings, and neighbourhoods where families, seniors and young people feel comfortable participating in community life.

Strong cities are built on strong communities.

City Hall should work for residents — not the other way around.

Shelly will push for greater transparency around spending and major decisions, clearer reporting on whether City initiatives are actually producing results, and more meaningful opportunities for residents and businesses to be heard. She believes municipal government should be responsive, practical and focused on execution.

When something isn’t working, government shouldn’t simply explain the problem. It should fix it.
